Chajeon Nori & Pyeongtaek Nongak performances are back!

Sydney Korean Festival returns for 2017! This year, the festival has expanded to two full days between the 1st and 2nd of April at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.

Various Korean food and performances introducing Korean traditional and modern culture will excite Sydneysiders.

One of the highlights of this year’s festival is a Juggernaut game, called Chajeon Nori, a top notch interactive experience for all festival goers!

Chajeon Nori’ is a traditional game in which two teams holding their A-shaped wooden frame with each team’s leader standing on the frame battle

to discourage the opponent team by raising the wooden structure higher. The team that makes the opponent’s wooden structure fall to the ground

wins the battle. About 150 people in total participate in the battle and the roar of each team will hit Darling Harbour. As a mock battle among males,

Chajeon Nori displays the martial spirit kept by the community people, however the beauty of Chajeon Nori lies in its spirit of fair play.

Pyeongtaek Nongak

Another highlight is Pyeongtaek Nongak performance which showcases Korean traditional folk songs, dances and acrobatics representing

Pyeongtaek province in Korea. Nongak is a form of traditional performing art encompassing music, dance and rituals. What makes it more special

about this performance is an Omudong – a human pyramid of two adults and three children, which you never seen by any other performers from

many provinces in Korea.

On the first day of the festival you will see a collaboration of Chajeon Nori and Pyeongtaek Nongak twice between 11am and 4pm. There will be a different traditional performance

of Pyeongtaek Nongak at the same time on the second day. It will also be a great opportunity for Australians to appreciate and experience colourful cultural diversity in Sydney.

Furthermore ‘K-POP World festival’ and ‘K-Talent’ consisting of very talented Australians presenting dynamic Korean performances will rock the stage. Once anyone step in

the Sydney Korean Festival, they will not be able to escape from the electric vibe and excitement of the performances encompassing traditional and modern Korean culture.
